Dr. Cortney Benson
Cortney Benson was born and raised in Orange County, California. She completed her prerequisites at Santiago Canyon College before transferring to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona for her undergraduate studies. At Cal Poly Pomona she earned an Animal Science degree with a minor in Pre-Veterinary Science. During her time at Cal Poly Pomona she participated in the foal watch team, sheep and swine showing teams, and served as a club officer for the Pre-Veterinary Club.
Dr. Benson attended veterinary school at Midwestern University and was part of the inaugural class. In veterinary school she developed a strong interest in small animal surgery and co-founded the Student Association of Veterinary Surgery. Dr. Benson also assisted in starting the veterinary branch of the H.O.M.E. Program which assists homeless pet owners in obtaining medication and surgical procedures for their pets.
After graduating with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, she completed a one-year small animal surgery and medicine internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal hospital where she was able to see a large case load while working alongside a variety of veterinary specialists.
Dr. Benson joined the San Clemente Veterinary Hospital team in July 2019. She is looking forward to building life-long relationships with the clients and patients here in San Clemente. On her free time, she enjoys hiking with her husband and friends and is always in the mood to relax with her kitty, Luna.
