San Clemente Veterinary Hospital holistic medicine

Holistic Care: Holistic nursing care is defined as a practice that focuses on healing the whole animal through the unity of body, mind, and environment.
At San Clemente Veterinary Hospital, that pets benefit most from a personalized approach to their veterinary care. With this in mind, we provide integrative holistic care in wellness visits, disease prevention, and treatment by offering a blend of conventional approaches and holistic therapies.

Holistic Medicine focuses on incorporating natural healing methods and engaging the animal’s own healing abilities to work toward health. The animals’ environment, behavior, nutrition, stress factors, disease pattern, and relationship to other pets and humans in the household are evaluated. Animals are individually assessed for any health, nutrition, mobility, or behavioral issues.

Integrative holistic treatment plans may include:

- food therapies
- acupuncture
- class IV cold laser
- natural herbal remedies
- nutritional supplements

In addition to other more traditional medical or surgical procedures.

- Healing and preventing illness
- Enhancing your pets’ overall health and healing abilities
- Improving his or her quality of life.

San Clemente Veterinary Hospital dental services

If your pet smells around the head area or has horrible breath, there is likely a severe dental problem is underway.

Wellness dental care is probably the most overlooked health problem of pets.

We as humans brush our teeth and floss daily. We go to the dentist twice a year to prevent and repair tooth problems.

Most pets don't have the benefit of dental care until they have an oral abscess or they can't eat. Many owners present their pet for care when they can't stand the smell any longer. Would you let your mouth get that bad before going to the dentist??

There is no substitute for a doctor supervised dental prophy performed under anesthesia. It provides tremendous benefit to your pets overall wellness and quality of life at minimal risk.

Many pet owners fear anesthesia involved in small animal dentistry. Our anesthetic safety record is exemplary for our industry. Modern drugs, monitoring equipment, and trained nurses and doctors provide your pet with optimum safety. Human hospitals use the same drugs that we do.

We have countless success stories from owners who are shocked to see that their middle aged pet "runs around like a puppy again" or state that their cat "isn't grumpy anymore and plays with his toys again". These results occurred after that painful tooth was removed or the infection cured.

Any animal that gets routine wellness exams is screened by the doctor for dental disease. Procedures will be recommended when appropriate.

Once your pets' mouth is healed we can train you to brush its' teeth. This is typically overlooked, and it is the #1 best way to maintain oral health in a pet. It is best done daily to maximize the effect and takes only a minute or two.

We get our teeth x-rayed every year by our dentist because it shows problems below the gum not visible by the oral examination. We x-ray every tooth during your pets' dental procedure to provide the same level of care that you get. It is surprising how many animals have hidden and sometimes painful diseases. These problems are usually remedied at that time.

**Awake teeth cleaning is a sub-standard and often illegal practice carried out by untrained and unlicensed individuals. This is why you see them advertising at groom shops and pet stores. The D.A. could, but chooses to not prosecute these false practitioners. Buyer beware.

San Clemente Veterinary Hospital surgical room

We have a reputation in the community as an exemplary surgical facility offering a wide array of services ranging from the very basic spay and neuter services and many minor surgical procedures, to extremely complex corrective cancer, reconstructive, and orthopedic surgeries.

Drs. John Agostini, DVM and Randall Fitch, ACVS (American College of Veterinary Surgeons-Board Certified) perform the more complex operations at San Clemente Veterinary Hospital. They utilize a team approach when necessary.

Orthopedic injuries are common in dogs and cats. We offer a complete package of surgical remedies ranging from ligament restoration such as ACL (cruciate rupture), ligament restoration from traumatic injuries, and wide variety of fracture repair methods to meet the demands of our patients. Drs Agostini and Fitch routinely perform these procedures at our office.

Emergency surgeries are also a routine practice at our hospital. Dr. John Agostini is extensively trained and experienced in veterinary emergency surgery and critical care. Be assured that we are a “go-to” choice if your pet is suddenly distressed or critically injured in an accident. He is always on-call to perform necessary life-saving operations.
Our success rate is extremely high even with the complex and critical patient. Of course, there are many variables including whether or not a disease is cureable vs. controllable. You will always be well informed of the prognosis, potential complications, and cost options when electing to perform surgery on your pet. Dr Fitch is a board-certified surgical specialist and can perform or consult on any operation that we do.
Most animal hospitals don’t perform the type of surgeries listed above and refer you to a specialty hospital where costs are the highest in our industry. We are more able to contain costs and therefore offer the above procedures and many that are not listed at a significant savings to you without compromising outcome.
Of course, we can’t perform every surgical procedure. There are many cutting edge techniques that are only available at a specialty hospital. We know the right people in our area and can refer you to the best specialist for your particular problem.
