If I was staying in this area, I would feel happy and proud to call this vet office mine. They are convenient, helpful, thorough, clean, comfortable, friendly, professional, and don’t pressure/judge (something I really appreciate since I need time and space to make decisions). – Lynnze H.
SC Vet is wonderful! I just took our new Golden Retriever here for the first time yesterday for some updates on his vaccines and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer experience. The women that I met who worked there were so sweet and helpful. My husband is currently deployed right now so I trip to the vet for me means fours kids ages four and under and a dog. As soon as I got into the office they helped me with my dog and even brought out special coloring books for the kids! The office itself is beautiful as well…..new, clean and comfortable. This is definitely Brinkley’s new Veterinary office, no need to look any further! – Jenelle D.
I absolutely love this place! I was referred to this hospital by my friend who had taken in her cat to get fixed a few months ago. I have a new dog that I just got from some ad I saw online and I was told the dog was healthy. The second night I had him, he started throwing up and wouldn’t stop. I called the number my friend gave me and explained to the person that answered what was going on. I must have sounded pretty scared because she scheduled me an appointment for the same day. When I walked in, the office looked clean, organized and I was greeted by the same woman who took my call. She remembered not only my name, but also my dog’s. I was in and out with a very inexpensive prescription medication for my dog within 30 minutes. I only wish my own doctor’s office was that quick and affordable! I will definitely use this hospital in the future! – Michelle M.
My dog Gracie and I have been coming to San Clemente Veterinary Hospital for many years now. I’ve always been treated with respect. Gracie? The vet and staff have gone above and beyond with her. – Dorthy B.
I couldn’t be happier with the service I’ve gotten from San Clemente. Sammy (a female cat, now 14 years old) is the patient. Each time I bring her in everyone is cheerful, friendly and helpful. From diagnosing her problem, to treating emergencies, and even to maintaining order in the waiting room, there is no situation these people can’t handle well. – Rose B.
My large long-haired dog Bruno has been coming to San Clemente for all six of his years. Early on, he needed shots. Later he needed to be neutered. Interspersed there were the gastric issues, the annoying scratching, and other problems suffered by Bruno, but dealt with professionally and with concern by the veterinarian and other staff at San Clemente. I love them (almost) as much as I love Bruno. – Amber
I recently visited San Clemente Veterinary Hospital having an emergency with my medium-sized dog, Joey, who had been hit by a car, and I was very pleased with the service. All staff was knowledgeable and experienced and answered my questions completely. As soon as I called and explained the situation, the staff had me bring Joey in immediately, then scheduled her for an on-site MRI and, after reading the results, got her into surgery immediately. After a long afternoon and one night at San Clemente, I took Joey home and eventually she recovered. For her ultimate success I credit San Clemente – its veterinarian, nurse and technicians – all of whom I saw a lot of during Joey’s care. THANK YOU. I’ll be back. – Mary
I checked out this place for its cat boarding services and the prices are reasonable and I think my cat is going to have a great time. I called and made an appointment which was easy and convenient and off I sent my cat. I know she will be happy and comfortable because the staff is friendly and they seem passionate towards my cat. So far their boarding services are looking good. – Candice L.
This clinic is nothing short of amazing. I chose SCVH at random when we moved to San Clemente, and the level of care and compassion that we have experienced has been beyond our expectations. The entire staff is positive, friendly, compassionate, knowledgeable, and always available to help. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Habekost and Dr. Cruz! I am grateful for the weekend hours and flexible scheduling. Some of the prices are a little high, but like everything else in this world you get what you pay for. The level of care is worth every penny in my opinion. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone! – Stephany T.
I really love that this animal hospital works with you on many kinds of payments. I was in a bind with an emergency that my dog had one evening and had no cash to work with. They took a specialty credit card as payment that allowed me to make payments on my dogs emergency vet bill which took a huge weight from my shoulders. They were also very helpful and courteous and were completely understanding of my situation. I would definitely recommend San Clemente veterinary hospital to anyone in the area that needs emergency vet services. – Alessandro L.

Questions & Answers
Where can I find useful information about my pet?
INTERNET & OUR ADVICE. The internet is an incredible resource for modern pet owners. Unfortunately, there is much to be desired about some of the advice you can find which can serve to confuse your understanding of a particular topic. Our best advice to you is to avoid “blogs” that are written by breeders and breed fanciers. They may have a passion for a particular topic, but typically fall short of “truth”. We like a particular website called www.veterinarypartner.com. It is managed by the Veterinary Information Network or (VIN) which is an international veterinary learning community. You can be assured that the material there is what we call evidence based, meaning that science and research backs up the statements made there. You can search most any medical topic for multiple species. LICENSED VETS. Any licensed veterinarian has done their homework and can claim to be an expert in animal health care. It takes the average vet 8 to 9 years of college to complete their education. Once course work is finished, we are subjected to both national and state board exams and must pass these tests in order to practice. Veterinarians are your best information resource. Lastly, don’t be hesitant about calling the office with your questions. There is always someone on staff who can cheerfully give you the answers that you need!
There are a lot of vets in our area, what sets you apart from them?
LOCATION. Our location allows for easy freeway access. So getting here is a breeze! DOCTORS. All of the primary care doctors who work here seeing patients has had at least one year of specialty training at a referral hospital and/or is a board certified specialist. You can be assured that they are using all of the newest and best diagnostic & treatment plans when your pet is ill. EMERGENCY CARE. Emergency and Critical Care as well as surgery is another area we really stand out from the average hospital.
How can I help my pet be healthy but not spend a lot of money?
Some pets never seem to get sick and others have nothing but trouble throughout their lives. Be prepared for some maintenance costs for: Annual examination – This allows the doctor to find problems early so that small remedies can be employed. Dental Cleaning – This is usually needed every 2-4 years for the average pet and if kept up with, it will protect your pets teeth from diseases and painful problems. Baths often – Especially if your pet has itchy allergies, bathing as often as once or twice a week can be very helpful. Parasite control – Fleas and internal parasites are easily prevented by simple monthly medications that have been proven safe. Outside risks – Rattlesnakes in the hills commonly bite pets. Stay clear of areas where they live. Also, avoid exercise on hot days. Your pets cannot cool down like people do and are subject to overheating. For Cats keep them indoors – they are good at finding trouble when they live outside.
What should I feed my pet?
There is no simple answer to this question. I typically advise people to pick a food that is affordable, easy to get, and well tolerated by your pet. Unfortunately, everyone has a passionate opinion about pet food. As far as I am concerned there is no cure for all disease with your food choice. We as veterinarians have diet plans that help control certain medical problems such as diabetes, urinary tract disorders, intestinal issues, and obesity. A healthy pet food need not be an expensive or “hypoallergenic” food as it does nothing to prevent disease.
How can I be sure my aging pet is healthy?
A wellness visit is just what you need to set your mind at ease. This includes a chest x-ray, full blood panel, urine test, abdominal ultrasound (very important in again dogs), blood pressure check, and a thorough physical exam. Ninety-nine percent of problems will be uncovered by this screening (we cannot investigate the brain however as we do not have MRI at our facility). The entire package above is only available to animals without symptoms.
