Vaccinations

LOW COST VACCINATION CLINIC: We are changing the format of the vaccine clinic. It will no longer be available on a walk in basis. We will continue our historically low vaccination prices as before. You will however need to call ahead and schedule a technician appointment. All qualifying pets must have seen the doctor for a medical wellness exam within the last year. Vaccine reactions must make a doctors appointment and cannot participate in the vaccine clinic. ***Pricing for vaccines will not change.

RATING: 5/5 If I was staying in this area, I would feel happy and proud to call this vet office mine. They are convenient, helpful, thorough, clean, comfortable, friendly, professional, and don't pressure/judge (something I really appreciate since I need time and space to make decisions). - Lynnze H. RATING: 5/5 SC Vet is wonderful! I just took our new Golden Retriever here for the first time yesterday for some updates on his vaccines and I couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. The women that I met who worked there were so sweet and helpful. My husband is currently deployed right now so I trip to the vet for me means fours kids ages four and under and a dog. As soon as I got into the office they helped me with my dog and even brought out special coloring books for the kids! The office itself is beautiful as well.....new, clean and comfortable. This is definitely Brinkley's new Veterinary office, no need to look any further! - Jenelle D. RATING: 5/5 I absolutely love this place! I was referred to this hospital by my friend who had taken in her cat to get fixed a few months ago. I have a new dog that I just got from some ad I saw online and I was told the dog was healthy. The second night I had him, he started throwing up and wouldn't stop. I called the number my friend gave me and explained to the person that answered what was going on. I must have sounded pretty scared because she scheduled me an appointment for the same day. When I walked in, the office looked clean, organized and I was greeted by the same woman who took my call. She remembered not only my name, but also my dog's. I was in and out with a very inexpensive prescription medication for my dog within 30 minutes. I only wish my own doctor's office was that quick and affordable! I will definitely use this hospital in the future! - Michelle M. RATING: RECOMMENDS My dog Gracie and I have been coming to San Clemente Veterinary Hospital for many years now. I’ve always been treated with respect. Gracie? The vet and staff have gone above and beyond with her. – Dorthy B. RATING: RECOMMENDS I couldn’t be happier with the service I’ve gotten from San Clemente. Sammy (a female cat, now 14 years old) is the patient. Each time I bring her in everyone is cheerful, friendly and helpful. From diagnosing her problem, to treating emergencies, and even to maintaining order in the waiting room, there is no situation these people can’t handle well. – Rose B. RATING: 5/5 My large long-haired dog Bruno has been coming to San Clemente for all six of his years. Early on, he needed shots. Later he needed to be neutered. Interspersed there were the gastric issues, the annoying scratching, and other problems suffered by Bruno, but dealt with professionally and with concern by the veterinarian and other staff at San Clemente. I love them (almost) as much as I love Bruno. – Amber RATING: 5/5 I recently visited San Clemente Veterinary Hospital having an emergency with my medium-sized dog, Joey, who had been hit by a car, and I was very pleased with the service. All staff was knowledgeable and experienced and answered my questions completely. As soon as I called and explained the situation, the staff had me bring Joey in immediately, then scheduled her for an on-site MRI and, after reading the results, got her into surgery immediately. After a long afternoon and one night at San Clemente, I took Joey home and eventually she recovered. For her ultimate success I credit San Clemente - its veterinarian, nurse and technicians – all of whom I saw a lot of during Joey’s care. THANK YOU. I’ll be back. – Mary RATING: 5/5 I checked out this place for its cat boarding services and the prices are reasonable and I think my cat is going to have a great time. I called and made an appointment which was easy and convenient and off I sent my cat. I know she will be happy and comfortable because the staff is friendly and they seem passionate towards my cat. So far their boarding services are looking good. – Candice L. RATING: 5/5 This clinic is nothing short of amazing. I chose SCVH at random when we moved to San Clemente, and the level of care and compassion that we have experienced has been beyond our expectations. The entire staff is positive, friendly, compassionate, knowledgeable, and always available to help. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Habekost and Dr. Cruz! I am grateful for the weekend hours and flexible scheduling. Some of the prices are a little high, but like everything else in this world you get what you pay for. The level of care is worth every penny in my opinion. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone! - Stephany T. RATING: RECOMMENDS I really love that this animal hospital works with you on many kinds of payments. I was in a bind with an emergency that my dog had one evening and had no cash to work with. They took a specialty credit card as payment that allowed me to make payments on my dogs emergency vet bill which took a huge weight from my shoulders. They were also very helpful and courteous and were completely understanding of my situation. I would definitely recommend San Clemente veterinary hospital to anyone in the area that needs emergency vet services. – Alessandro L. To add or remove your review, please email: mysite@webandvincent.com

RESCUE MEDICINE

GIVING BACK IN ORANGE COUNTY ALONE, THERE WERE NEARLY 10,000 DOGS AND CATS EUTHANIZED IN 2013. For the most part, most of these animals only lacked a home. This sad statistic is an example of how many marginalized pets exist in our rather affluent society. In comparison, nearly 15,000 pets were euthanized in 2010. Fortunately, there has been a steady reduction in the number of pets destroyed over the last few years. Most of this reduction is the result of spay-neuter policies before adoption, economic trends, and hundreds of volunteers working tirelessly to find homes for these unwanted pets. Thanks to the efforts of rescue volunteers, the internet, and generosity by the veterinary community, more pets in need of medical care and loving homes have been and will be spared. There isn’t a veterinarian that I know that doesn’t give back to their community by contributing their time and expertise toward this worthy cause. All animals that are adopted from a shelter have to be spayed or neutered regardless of age. This is always a surgical procedure performed by a veterinarian. At San Clemente Veterinary Hospital, we are proud to provide pro bono (free) spay and neuter services to the San Clemente Animal Shelter (Pet Project Foundation - PPF) and the Capistrano Animal Rescue Effort (CARE). The cost for safe anesthesthetics, pain medication, surgical supplies, nursing, and doctor time are all donated. This assures that these pets get top notch care and do not burden the budget of the animal shelter. Our facilities are always available to various shelters at or below our true cost. We are proud to offer these services to this worthy cause. I have worked in San Clemente for over 23 years now and am both gratified and thrilled to see the tremendous benefit to the animal community and our citizens through the adoption efforts of these organizations. BELOW IS A PARTIAL LIST OF THE SHELTERS THAT COME TO US FOR MEDICAL, SURGICAL, AND GENERAL DIAGNOSTIC HELP: Pet Project Foundation (PPF), San Clemente Capistrano Animal Rescue Effort (CARE), San Juan Capistrano The Barking Lot, San Diego Angel City Pits, Los Angeles Orange County Boxer Rescue Orange County German Shepherd Rescue

INSURANCE

PET HEALTH INSURANCE. Pet insurance helps make vet bills affordable. We want you and your pets to have the best coverage and health care available. At San Clemente Veterinary Hospital, we recommend pet health insurance to nearly all our clients. It’s a great way to help budget for pet health care costs and protect you financially in the case of a pet’s unexpected accident or illness. Pet health insurance can help to provide peace of mind knowing you may have help with future vet bills. Pet insurance plans can typically include reimbursement for: * Emergency Visits, Prescriptions, Lab Tests * Exams Cancer Hospitalization * Surgery X-rays and more… PET INSURANCE HAS COME OF AGE!! WE HIGHLY ADVOCATE THAT YOU INSURE YOUR PETS HEALTH BY PURCHASING A PLAN TODAY. There are now many available policies to choose from.. It is really wise to shop for the policy that best meets the needs of your budget and your treatment philosophy. The following guidelines may be helpful: If you want very comprehensive coverage, look at policies offered by “Healthy Paws” and “Trupanion”. These companies are the only ones currently available that cover up to 90% of all expenses (minus your deductible) and do not limit the amount of payout per incident ot lifetime. Alternatively, other policies such as “Pet Plan”, “Pet’s Best”, “VPI”, “ASPCA” have a buy-up style of underwriting. These policies can fall short when major expenses occur if you choose the lowest premium they have. They can have claim caps which limit the payout per incident . Most vet bills are under $300.00…but major medical/surgical problems such as intestinal blockages that require surgery, cancer treatment, vehicular injuries, dog attacks warranting reconstructive surgery, snakebites etc. can all cost thousands of dollars to treat. In the big scheme of things, more coverage is cheap to acquire. We suggest the following web link which compares major pet insurance carriers: www.consumersadvocate.org **Not all pet insurance are alike, so do your research. We do not advocate any one company, but have placed some links on this site for your convenience. They will guide you to comparable and affordable pet health insurance companies, that we feel deliver good value.

DOG WELLNESS PACKAGE

ADULT DOG. Adult dogs should have an exam every year to detect internal, dental, and orthopedic problems early before treatment gets more complicated. Adult dogs can be vaccinated every 3 years for DA2PP (distemper-parvo), and Rabies. AGING DOG. Aging dogs tend to have more health problems and an annual examination is strongly encouraged. ADULT DOG PRICING. ADULT or GERIATRIC CANINE WELLNESS PACKAGE: 60% discount applied to the regular pricing of the combined benefits below. BENEFITS. - a 20 to 30 minute comprehensive physical exam - blood pressure screening - chest x-ray - abdominal ultrasound - blood screening - heartworm and fecal parasite test - urinalysis Those who participate in this program are entitled to a low cost Dental Prophy at 25% off normal pricing within 6 months of the wellness screening mentioned above. When scheduled as a wellness procedure, the cost of this can be drastically reduced. Remember, early disease detection precludes critical care which is high cost. continued... DECIDING THE BEST PROGRAM. Does your dog travel with you? Does it go to play groups or doggie-day-care? Does your dog go hiking in the local hills with you? Or does he or she live a more home and yard lifestyle? The answer to all of these questions will guide us into making the right wellness recommendations for your dog. WE RECOMMEND. If your dog travels out of our area, you may need to have him or her on heartworm prevention. This disease is spread by mosquitoes and has regional significance. It is not yet a threat to locals in San Clemente, but may be a risk only short distances away, such as the north county San Diego and Big Bear areas. Since the advent of play groups, dog parks, and doggie-day-care infectious diseases are on the rise. Extra protection is advised for pets in these environments. COMMON RISK AREAS. The local foothills are a fantastic area to hike and play with your dog but are a common site to acquire ticks and encounter rattlesnakes. Protection should be provided for these risk factors. SNAKE BITES. A snakebite is a severe condition requiring emergency care. Snake venom vaccine is advised and is available through us. The vaccine does not shield your dog completely from the effects of rattlesnake envenomation but can reduce the amount of antivenin (very costly product) that is needed to treat the emergency. TICK DISEASES. Ticks can transmit infectious blood diseases. Prevention of bites is highly advised. We recommend Simparica or Brevecto oral products for flea and tick protection. The Preventic collar is also excellent for tick only protection. **We do not feel that Frontline or Advantix provide good enough protection and no longer advocate their use. Better products now exist. Wellness Packages are only available to animals that have no symptoms. Sick or injured pets are not eligible for wellness testing. Standard laboratory and medical fees will apply under such circumstances.

CAT WELLNESS PACKAGE

ADULT CAT. Most adult cats can be given vaccine boosters every 3 years. It is considered wise to not vaccinate for all diseases on the same day. An outdoor cat that is vaccinated for FVRCP, FeLV, and Rabies, will receive each vaccine in sequence on a yearly basis (ie. 2012 FVRCP, 2013 FeLV, and 2014 Rabies), along with their annual exam. We can adjust the sequence of vaccines dependent on the individual cats' vaccine history. AGING CAT. Aging cats tend to have more health problems and an annual examination, blood pressure testing, and blood and urine screening is strongly encouraged. Most older cats are brought to us sick and losing weight or after they have turned critical. Wellness exams help to identify problems before they strike out and cause serious symptoms. If you want to be sure that your aging feline is in tip-top shape, we advocate that you take advantage of the savings and have this done every year or two. INDOOR - OUTDOOR. Indoor cats are vaccinated only for FVRCP (feline distemper and upper respiratory viruses) Outdoor cats need more protection against rabies and feline leukemia viruses. ADULT CAT PRICING. ADULT or GERIATRIC FELINE WELLNESS PACKAGE: 60% discount applied to the regular pricing of the combined benefits below. BENEFITS. - a 20 to 30 minute exam/consultation with your doctor - blood pressure check (very important in older cats-this is the “silent killer” of cats) - whole body x-ray - abdominal ultrasound - thorough blood and urine testing - fecal testing for parasites Those who participate in this program are entitled to a low cost Dental Prophy at 25% off normal pricing within 6 months of the wellness screening mentioned above. We urge you to take advantage of this fantastic wellness value! Wellness Packages are only available to animals that have no symptoms. Sick or injured pets are not eligible for wellness testing. Standard laboratory and medical fees will apply under such circumstances.

NEW PET PACKAGE

ADOPTIONS Any animal that is adopted from a shelter organization regardless of location is eligible for a FREE examination and consultation by one of our doctors. Some of these animals come with a more complex medical history and need follow-up care. Others are healthy and need nothing more than the opportunity to meet our caring staff. Please bring a copy of all medical documents that the shelter provided to you so that we can incorporate the data into your new pet’s record. PET STORE OR BREEDER PURCHASES. Please refer to puppy or kitten Wellness Packages. These packages are designed to care for a puppy or kitten from the adoption age of 6 to 8 weeks up to adulthood. These cover all expenses for wellness care to include vaccines, wormings, parasite detection, and physical exams. They also qualify your pet for low cost spay or neuter services at our award winning facility. Always bring all documentation of vaccines, wormings, and medical care provided up to that point. It is also best to provide a fresh stool specimen as puppies and kittens often have intestinal parasites which we will need to diagnose and treat. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PET!!!
